Prayer Volunteer criteria

1. Are you thankful?
“Have no anxiety about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God” (Philippians 4:6). “Thanksgiving” connotes a worshipful state of mind, which is as important as believing in God’s power to help.
2. Do you have a personal relationship with God?
In order to join the PrayerHelps prayer volunteers you must be born-again by receiving Jesus as your Lord and Savior. All prayer and supplication is done based on your personal relationship with God through Jesus.
3. Do you pray in the name of Jesus?
“Whatever you ask in my name, I will do it, that the Father may be glorified in the Son; if you ask anything in my name, I will do it” (John 14:13-14). This means much more, of course, than merely saying “in Jesus’ name”
or “for Christ’s sake” at the end of a prayer. It suggests a desire to glorify God by asking only those things that are pleasing to Him and will
be helpful to His cause. As Samuel Chadwick once said: “To pray in the name of Christ is to pray as one who is at one with Christ, whose
mind is the mind of Christ, whose desires are the desires of Christ, and whose purpose is at one with that of Christ” (The Path of Prayer, p. 52).
4. You must cherish no sinful desire
“If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me” (Psalm 66:18). This does not mean that a person has to be perfect before he or she can pray. Over and over again God invites sinners to call upon Him. But it does mean that unless you are sorry for your sins and are willing to be free from every evil
thought, word, and deed, your prayers will not be effective. As Isaiah says: “Behold, the
Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: but your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear” (Isaiah 59:1,2). Sin separates man from God. Like dirt in an electrical connection, it
stops the flow of power. Nor does He answer prayers of a purely selfish nature. Says James:
“You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions” (James 4:3). A prayer for a new Cadillac or to win
$100,000 on a TV program will not have a very high priority in the courts of heaven.
5. You must be at one with God.
“If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you will, and it shall be done for you” (John 15:7). This has the same meaning as Psalm 34:15: “The eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry.” Identification with God’s righteous purposes is essential.
7. You must be patient.
“I waited patiently for the Lord; and
He inclined unto me, and heard my cry” (Psalm 40:1). Again, “Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and He shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord” (Psalm 27:14).
If all your prayers were answered immediately under the urgency of your pleading, you would probably be sadly disillusioned. Human vision is so limited that it is always wisest to wait for God to answer
as and when His wisdom may deem best.
8. You must have faith.
Last but not the least, “Whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith” (Matthew 21:22). You must believe that God is able to do what you ask Him to do. “Without faith it is impossible to please him. For whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him” (Hebrews 11:6).
